[Last revised: June 11, 2019 - GLJ]
We sometimes receive gift material for the CLASSICS reading room, and occasionally, they will send some new titles (which they purchase themselves) to add to their own collection.
Check each title against the catalogue to identify those titles that we already have in the library database:
- Any duplicate titles (same edition) will be added locations.
- Unique titles will be flagged for CLASSICS and be searched and catalogued as normal.
- Location code in holdings record: clas
- NO barcode
- NO item record
- Rubric on verso of t.p. and on call number label: CLASSICS
- Dust jackets are discarded/recycled (confirmed via M.Nugent email June 10/19)
- Call number label* affixed in the usual place(s)
- Gutter stamp “U of V”
- NO tattle tape
- In general, NO binding (there may be the odd exception).
- Call number label creation:
Change the label printer font size to 12
(The word “CLASSICS” will not fit on the label at our usual, 14 size)
Don’t forget to change the label printer font size back to 14 afterwards!
Since there won’t be a barcode to scan in the label printer window, keep the Holdings record up in the Cataloguing module, go to the label printer window, and click on the “Get # from cat client instead” button (upper right corner of label printer window). The printer software will find the Holdings record, and take the call number from there.
Once processed, place item(s) in a bubble envelope and mail to:
