Updating the Author Celebration List

The UVic Author Celebrated Works list includes publications by UVic faculty, staff, students, alumni, and retirees. Information about the initiative is at UVic Author Celebration.

The Libraries have a special fund for purchasing works by UVic authors called UVAU. Evelyn created a report that lists items purchased through this fund, which Caroline is forwarding automatically to the ScholCom inbox.

Items to be added to the list are identified in three ways:

  1. Listed in a UVAU fund summary report
  2. Submitted through the webform, with notification to the ScholCom inbox
  3. Emailed to scholcom@uvic.ca

Before adding items to the list, verify that they are by a UVic author and determine their relationship, i.e., which faculty they’re from or whether they’re an alum.

Also verify that the item is not on the list already.

Adding items to the list

The reading list has sections for each publication year. Items are listed in no particular order within the sections.

  1. If necessary, create a new section for the year of publication.
  2. Click Add → Search the library
  3. Search for the item and select it from the list
  4. Choose the appropriate section. Click Add & Edit
  5. Clean up the citation lightly, if necessary
  6. Under Item actions → Note for students, add a note about the UVic author, e.g., "Authored by Robert Gifford from the department of Psychology" or "Edited by UVic alumna Jennifer J. Bagelman"
  7. File the email under Author Celebration → Year

Ordering items

If an item isn’t in the catalogue, we may need to order a copy. Check with Inba if it’s ok to ask Acquisitions to order one for us.

  • We don't order textbooks.
  • If the title is an eBook that we have access to through an EBA agreement, we may want to order a permanent copy (print or electronic), depending on our collection policy.
