Though UVic Libraries' collection is large and expansive, you may not be able to find an exact item you are searching for available through the library. In these cases, you can expand your search beyond the library's collection and request an item through an interlibrary loan, all through Library Search.
Start by logging in using your Netlinks ID on Library Search's homepage - otherwise, you will be prompted to sign in later in your session.
Enter your search terms into the search box. If you are looking for a specific item, you can enter the exact title into the search box.
To expand your search beyond the library's collection, click the toggle button next to "Add results beyond the library search."
This will pull results from both UVic's collection and Ex Libris' Central Discovery Index (CDI), which allows you to view item records from other institutions. Searching through the CDI allows you to search many libraries at once for an item and request items through an interlibrary loan.
Under each item summary in the list of search results, the item's availability will be indicated.
Item's available in UVic's collectionis will be listed as "Available Online," "Download PDF," or available at a UVic library building (if a physical item). Items that were pulled from the CDI will be listed as "No Online Access."
To access an item outside of UVic's Libraries' collection, you will need to request an interlibrary loan (ILL). This can be done through Library Search. Click on the title of the item you wish to request to view the full record. Under the "How to get it" heading, select "Interlibrary Loan."
This will redirect you to the appropriate forms to place your request.
If you are a distance student, your ILL requests will be redirected to a dedicated unit to support your collection requests. They can be reached by email at infoline@uvic.ca.
