Information about using the University of Victoria's institutional repository, UVicSpace

Begin your submission

  1. Go to dspace.library.uvic.ca

  2. Log In

  3. On the left sidebar, click New --> Item --> the Collection you have authorization to submit to.

  4. Upload your files
    Use the browse button or drag and drop the file anywhere on the page.

  5. Authors
    Enter last name, first name of each author in the order of their appearance on the item.
    If there are more than 20 authors, enter the names of the first 20. Then, add another author, and enter et al. into the last name box.

  6. Title
    Enter the title of the item.

  7. Other Titles
    The item may have multiple titles, such as a translated title. Enter your work's additional titles using the + Add more button.

  8. Date of Issue
    Enter the copyright year of the item.

  9. Publisher
    Enter the publisher's name. For journal articles, use the title of the journal.

  10. Citation
    Enter the publication's citation in APA.

  11. Series/Report No.
    Enter the item's series/report number, if applicable.

  12. Identifiers
    Select the type of identifier from the dropdown menu and then enter the identifier itself. If the identifier is a DOI, select URI from the list.

  13. Type
    Select the item's type from the dropdown menu.

  14. Language
    Select the primary language for the item.

  15. Keywords
    Enter the item's keywords or phrases. Click + Add more if you have more than one keyword.

  16. Abstract
    Copy and paste the abstract from the item.

  17. Sponsors
    List any sponsors of the research (e.g. CIHR, NSERC, SSHRC, the B.C. Ministry of Social Development, et cetera). Please ensure you include the grant number.

  18. Description
    Enter any non-financial support to the project (e.g. lab support, data, et cetera).

  19. Peer Review Status
    For pre-prints and other non-peer-review items, select Unreviewed.
    For post-prints and published articles, select Reviewed.

  20. Scholarly Level
    Select the highest scholarly level that applies. For example, if a graduate student publishes an article with their faculty supervisor, select Faculty.

  21. Upload files
    Add an embargo to your item if need be (i.e. due to publisher permissions).
    Label your item as open access if you are uploading a Creative Commons licensed version of record.

    Skip to Step 23 if you are uploading a pre-print or post-print (without an embargo).
    1. Click the pencil icon.

    2. Under Access condition type, select either embargo or open access from the dropdown menu.
      If you select embargo, proceed with steps 21.3 - 21.4.
      If you select open access, click Save and proceed to step 22.

    3. Use the calendar button in the Grant access from field to select the day AFTER the embargo expires.

    4. Click Save. You will now see a label indicating the expiry date.

  22. Creative Commons license
    NOTE: Only select a Creative Commons license if the item already has one.

  • Select Creative Commons and answer the questions, after which the link to your chosen Creative Commons license will appear.

  • Click I grant the license above.

  1. Deposit license
    Click I confirm the license above.

  2. Review and deposit
    Review the information you have entered for accuracy. Click + Deposit.
