Tri-Council

The Social Sciences and Humanities Research Council of Canada (SSHRC) is the federal research funding agency that promotes and supports postsecondary-based research and training in the humanities and social sciences. By focusing on developing Talent, generating Insights and forging Connections across campuses and communities, SSHRC strategically supports world-leading initiatives that reflect a commitment to ensuring a better future for Canada and the world.

Connection Grants: The goal of the Connection program is to realize the potential of social sciences and humanities research for intellectual, cultural, social and economic influence, and benefit and impact on and beyond the campus, by supporting specific activities and tools that facilitate the flow and exchange of research knowledge.

Insight Grants: The goal of the Insight program is to build knowledge and understanding about people, societies and the world by supporting research excellence in all subject areas eligible for SSHRC funding.

Partnership Grants: SSHRC provides funding for research, research training, and knowledge mobilization carried out by new and existing formal partnerships.

The Natural Sciences and Engineering Research Council of Canada (NSERC) aims to make Canada a country of discoverers and innovators for the benefit of all Canadians. The agency supports university students in their advanced studies, promotes and supports discovery research, and fosters innovation by encouraging Canadian companies to participate and invest in postsecondary research projects. NSERC researchers are on the vanguard of science, building on Canada’s long tradition of scientific excellence.

The Canadian Institutes of Health Research (CIHR) is the Government of Canada's health research investment agency. Its mission is to create new scientific knowledge and to enable its translation into improved health, more effective health services and products, and a strengthened Canadian health care system. Composed of 13 institutes, CIHR provides leadership and support to health researchers and trainees across Canada. CIHR awards for postdoctoral researchers include:

CLIR

The Council on Library & Information Resources (CLIR) is an independent, non-profit organization that forges strategies to enhance research, teaching, and learning environments in collaboration with libraries, cultural institutions, and communities of higher learning.

CARL

The Canadian Association of Research Libraries (CARL) Research in Librarianship Grant was designed to support Canadian academic librarians’ active engagement in research activities. Grants are awarded annually, when merited, to support librarians and current LIS students actively conducting research in academic librarianship with the intent to publish the results.
