Web Archiving for curators

Web Archiving for curators

Tools and training to support UVic Libraries librarians, archivists, and staff creating web archives.

Web Archiving is an established collections practice at UVic Libraries. The UVic Libraries' traditional functions of acquiring, cataloging, preserving and serving collection materials of scholarly significance extends to digital materials, including web sites.

The Web Archiving Working Group (WAWG) oversees the University of Victoria Libraries web archiving service from the Internet Archive that helps the Libraries harvest, build, and preserve collections of digital content relevant to our community.  The Libraries  joined Archive-It in 2013.   Collections are publicly viewable on the Archive-It site and the Internet Archive.

This guide draws upon resources provided by Archive-It in its knowledge base at support.archive-it.org.

For more information about Web Archiving at UVIC, see the WAWG committee site on Connect and the Libraries Web Archiving web page.

Collection curators recommend, create, and manage collections with the assistance of  WAWG.
