The Surfacing the Nature and Scope of Residential School Denialism in Canada project seeks to identify and surface the growing harmful trend and information sources of residential school system denial in Canada that have emerged in recent years, and investigate the ways denialism is manifesting in our society.
With the recognition that residential school Survivors have consistently and reliably shared their truths with the Canadian public in the hopes of ending generations of mistreatment in this country, this project grounds itself in the extensive research conducted on residential schools by major national efforts including the Royal Commission on Aboriginal Peoples, the Truth and Reconciliation Commission of Canada and the National Inquiry into Missing and Murdered Indigenous Women and Girls.
Despite the depth of work undertaken and bravery exhibited by thousands of Residential School Survivors, across Canada, a growing chorus of voices has sought to undermine efforts to document residential school truths.
Striving to develop awareness of the scope, activities, strategies, and tactics of residential school denialism narratives in Canada, the Surfacing the Nature and Scope of Residential School Denialism in Canada project seeks to identify and surface the growing harmful trend and information sources of residential school system denial in Canada that have emerged in recent years, and investigate the ways denialism is manifesting in our society.
