Knowledge Mobilization

Through the Digital Scholarship Commons (DSC), UVic Libraries offers many workshops that teach participants how to use digital tools. 

The DSC awards digital badges for completing workshops. To earn a badge:

• Sign up for a workshop.
• Complete one or more of the hands-on activities in the workshop.
• Request a digital badge from the instructor by showing the instructor your completed activity and asking for a badge or by emailing the instructor a photo of your completed activity.

You will receive your badge via the email address you signed up for the workshop within three business days. The DSC uses the Badgr open badging system. You do not need a Badgr account to earn DSC badges, but Badgr provides a convenient way to store badges called a “Backpack." To sign up for Badgr, go to https://badgr.io/, click on the blue Create an Account button, and follow the instructions provided. Please use the US version of Badgr, not the Canadian version.

To earn a summative badge for our "Knowledge Mobilization Tools" pathway, which trains researchers how to use tools to help them promote their research in ways beyond research papers and conferences, collect badges for at least five of the following workshops:

• Personal Websites with WordPress 
• Video Editing with iMovie or OpenShot 
• Design & Layout with Canva
• Intro to Podcasting 
• Intro to Data Visualization & Mapping 
• Intro to Sketchnoting
• Academic Poster Design with PowerPoint
• Interactive Nonlinear Stories with Twine
