Editing and Contributing to Wikipedia: Asian Studies

How to create Wikipedia account

One of the first things you have to do before editing Wikipedia is to create an account.  Although it is not absolutely necessary to edit, by creating an account you can establish your credentials as an editor and eventually earn an autoconfirmed user status. One becomes an auto confirmed user after having an account for a certain number of days and completing a certain number of edits. Autoconfirmed users can "create articlesmove pages, edit semi-protected pages, and upload files or upload a new version of an existing file." [1

Sandbox

Once you're created your Wiki account and logged in, you can find a sandbox area, that is accessible through a link in the upper right hand corner of the page.

In the sandbox you can practice editing and draft changes. Make use of the Sandbox as a new user and then copy your changes into live entries. You can link people to your Sandbox, but it will not be searchable on Wikipedia.
