Introduction to Scopus: Researchers, research staff, and graduate students

Intro to Scopus functionality

Scopus

Scopus is a large citation and abstract database of research sources, including journals, books, conference proceedings and trade publications. It provides researchers with a tool to search, discover, analyze subject areas and fields of interest across science, technology, medicine, social science, and arts and humanities.

Intended Audiences

This workshop is for:

  • Faculty
  • UVic Staff (especially with interest in research impact)
  • Graduate Students

This workshop is for a general audience; no previous knowledge of the Scopus is needed. It is applicable to early, mid, and late career researchers as well as staff working on research impact analysis.

Learning Outcomes

Upon completion of this workshop, participants will be able to:

  • Explain that Scopus is multidisciplinary database 
  • Conduct a basic search in Scopus
    • Document search
    • Author profile search
    • Institutional search
    • Source search
  • Explore advanced search functions
  • Understand how Scopus can benefit one’s research activities
  • Participants may explore additional optional activities around managing your author profile, setting up alerts, and identifying top journals and collaborators
