What is Literary Modernism?

Literary Modernism is an international literary movement that began in the late 19th century and continued through to the early-mid 20th century. The exact end of modernism is difficult to pinpoint as the movement began and ended at different times in different places, and some modernist writers published work into the mid-late 20th century. 

Literary Modernism is characterized by experimentation, and often explores technological and societal changes, especially those relating to and resulting from the First World War. The writing style of Modernism is marked by a conscious departure from previous literary forms, driven by a  desire to create something new rather than continuing following traditional literary forms.
