History How-to: finding, using and writing scholarly book reviews

Resources for HSTR 381, winter 2021

Search the library catalogue

Search for physical items including books and media.

Find books on Medical History

Start with keyword searches for your desired topic - when you find one that's relevant, follow its subject headings to find more like it.   Subject headings will be something like "Epidemics -- History -- 18th Century" or "Medical History" or "Obstetrics -- History"

Sorting by date can be a useful way to find recently published books, and you can limit to ebooks or print books, as you wish.

If you'd like to borrow a physical (print) book, you can request it for pickup by using the 'Hold/Recall' underneath the 'Get It' heading in the book record. Books will be available to pick up at the library's loan desk. You can request a number of books to investigate (becuase you can't really judge a book by it's record), and return any unwanted books immediately using the drop bin beside the library's front door.   You can even book a study space in advance, to review your books in comfort!
