Key library resources for UVic's MBA students

Tips for researching companies

  • Use library databases to check for company profiles, use these to collect basic information about a company and understand the organizational and historical context. You can also build lists of companies based on certain criteria.
  • Look for information created by the company (website, annual report and other documents, social media, advertising, etc.) to get a sense of their actions, operations, strategy, and culture.
  • Search for news or other articles to find information written about the company by others (reporters, customers, analysts, etc.)

Key databases

► Start with the following databases to find company profiles and related information.

Company filings & financials

► Company profiles from the above databases will include basic financials and company filings including annual reports for public companies. The annual report communicates corporate and financial activities to shareholders. Additional filings, filed with government regulatory bodies may disclose even more information about a company's industry, risks, strategy, and future direction. Try these resources, as well as the company's website and investor pages for additional filings and financial information.
