Western Music History

This guide is designed to help you get started with your research on the history of music.

Where to begin

1. Identify your topic by asking yourself a question. Identify the keywords and use these in your searches.

2. Create a search that uses the keywords you have identified
     Think of synonyms and acronyms as appropriate
      Use these words to search in the LIbrary Catalogue, Summon and in Journal Article
      Databases

3. Start with a Dictionary or Encyclopedia (such as the Grove Dictionary of Music) to find your initial information
