Research and Scholarly Impact

This guide is an introduction to responsibly measuring research impact

Narrative CVs

Many funding agencies have transitioned to a new narrative-style CV for competitions.Canada's Tri-Agency (CIHR, NSERC, and SSHRC) are prioritizing written descriptions of an applicant’s research contributions, allowing scholars to highlight a wide range of research outputs and to describe their career trajectories in more detail. This format values societal research outcomes, such as influence on policy or mentorship, alongside more traditional research outputs like publications.

This resource has been developed by the Research Office and UVic Libraries at the University of Victoria. It is intended to support UVic faculty, staff, students, and partners that require a statement of significant contributions, including as part of a larger narrative CV
