Library renovations: what you need to know

This site keeps the community up-to-date on library services during renovations @ UVic Libraries' Mearns Centre for Learning - McPherson Library

Coming soon! a new library service desk

Starting in late Fall 2022, we’re building a new service desk and expanded study space in the Mearns Centre for Learning-McPherson Library.

During construction, existing desks will be removed and the Ask Us desk will be temporarily located at the Music + Media desk on the main floor, at the back of the building on the left.  Staff will still be available to answer questions at the temporary desk and via email AskUs.

Expected completion date: April 2023

Looking for quiet/silent study spaces?

If you are looking for quieter space to study, you can find silent study spaces on the Lower Level and Third Floor of Mearns-McPherson Library.  Group study rooms are available for online booking

Unplug(ged), a new space at the back of the First Floor on the left, will be available for quiet study; use of electronics is allowed during renovations.

Building One of the new student residences, located across Ring Road from the Libraries, has single and group seating on the first and second floors.  In addition, the campus has multiple computer labs offering bookable project rooms and group work tables.

Need help with noise reduction?

Noisy work will be scheduled after the library building is closed and, if needed, during the early morning opening hours (7:30 am - 9 am Monday to Friday). However, should you need earplugs or wish to check out noise-dampening headphones, see the friendly library staff at the Ask Us desk.
