Library information for distance students and programs

This guide provides information on library services for distance education students, faculty, and their programs.

About the Libraries' Distance Learning and Research unit

Distance students have access to the same library collections and resources that our on-campus students use.  The only difference is that our unit provides you with a dedicated line of support to assist you with your research needs.

Some of the ways we support you include:

  • We can provide you with an orientation to the library collection
  • We can provide you with research assistance (e.g. choosing databases to search, finding resources)
  • We can send you materials from our collection or can borrow materials from other libraries on your behalf
  • We can set you up with reciprocal borrowing privileges with other Canadian universities near where you live

Orientation to UVic Libraries for distance education students

(Approx. 8 mins.)  The pace of the tutorial can be controlled using navigation buttons located along the bottom of the presentation.  Transcripts for each slide are available under the 'Notes' tab.
