As a national advocacy organization for First Nations, the AFN seeks to advance First Nations Inherent and Treaty Rights through the development policy, public education and where applicable, the co-development of legislation to build First Nations capacity.

The First Nations Leadership Council is comprised of the political executives of the BC Assembly of First Nations,
First Nations Summit, and the Union of BC Indian Chiefs. This group works together to develop coordinated approaches to issues relevant to First Nations communities throughout the province.

The Métis Nation is represented through democratically elected governments – Métis Nation-Saskatchewan, Métis Nation of Alberta, Métis Nation British Columbia and Métis Nation of Ontario. These Métis governments are the contemporary expression of the centuries-old struggle of the Métis Nation to be self-determining within the Canadian federation and are the Governing Members of the Métis National Council, the national and international representative of the Métis Nation.

Métis Nation BC is recognized by the Métis National Council, Provincial Government of British Columbia, and the Federal Government of Canada, as the Governing Nation for Métis in BC.

The National Indigenous Knowledge and Language Alliance (NIKLA) mission is to create an association to unify and amplify the voices of Indigenous Peoples (First Nations, Métis, and Inuit) to network and nurture a community of practice related to Indigenous knowledge, cultural memory, language, and Indigenous ways of knowing, as they relate to culture memory and heritage.

An organization dedicated to transitioning First Nations from the Indian Act to their own concept of self-governance.
