Today's construction technologies and techniques differ vastly from those in use at the time the first National Building Code (NBC) was produced in 1941. To keep pace with changes, and ensure that the latest innovations and applications are applied safely by the construction industry, a new edition of the NBC is published approximately every five years.

BC Building Code 2018
The 2018 British Columbia Building and Plumbing Code (BCBC) is an objective-based code which identifies the minimum standard within the Province of British Columbia for buildings to which this Code applies. Building, Plumbing and Fire Codes (collectively referred to as the 2018 BC Codes) are regularly updated and this edition of the BC Codes succeeds the 2006 edition

2017 National Electrical Safety Code
This Code covers basic provisions for safeguarding of persons from hazards arising from the installation, operation, or maintenance of (1) conductors and equipment in electric supply stations, and (2) overhead and underground electric supply and communication lines.

Publications of the Canadian General Standards Board

The library received (until 2011) these standards in paper format. They are shelved in the McPherson Library Reference area at call number QC100/C3C2. An online index is available - click the link above to browse the online CGSB index.

The IEEE/IEE Electronic Library, via the IEEE Xplore web site, contains the full text of all IEEE and IEE journals and conferences, as well as a complete set of IEEE Standards. Searching by keyword and author name, or browsing by publication title is possible. Tables of content and abstracts as well as full page images of the articles are included in this resource.

ASSIST - Quick Search
ASSIST-Quick Search provides direct access to U.S. Defense and Federal specifications and standards available in the official DoD repository. MIL documents are available as free PDF downloads to the public. Hint: MIL/DOD-STD-xxx, MIL/DOD-HDBK-xxx, MIL-specs, MIL-PRF, DIDs (DI-xx-nnnnn) are all available here. By putting in the base number only (no letters or rev levels) in the "Document Number" field, you will see everything in the ASSIST database with that number, even if the document has changed from a SPEC to a PREF, etc.
