What is Zotero?

Zotero (zoh-TAIR-oh) is an open-source research tool and citation manager (Linux, Mac,& PC).

With Zotero, you can:

  • Create, store and manage research sources like PDFs, webpages, and citations
  • Automatically create and format bibliographies, in-text citations and footnotes directly in Word or OpenOffice
  • Add notes, tags, and annotations to your research sources
  • And much more!

Zotero software can be installed onto your computer's hard drive. You can also download a browser extension so you can capture sources from online databases, catalogs, Google, and more directly from your browser. You can also create a Zotero.org account and use the cloud to synchronize your data across multiple devices, but be aware that this means your data will be hosted on U.S. servers.
