Education - Children's Literature in the Classroom

A guide for locating grade-appropriate children's literature for use in the classroom.

Finding novels

Pre-service teachers are often concerned about finding a novel for the class which is "grade appropriate."  This section has been created to help showcase some of our favourites, and they've been arranged by grade grouping, as well as by genre. 

Please note: grade level, when stated, does not refer to the reading level of the text. If you require this alternative, you might find the guide for Early Readers helpful.

To check the recommended grade for a novel, you can also search the Educational Resource Acquisition Consoritum (ERAC).  The resources listed on ERAC have been reviewed and recommended by district teachers in British Columbia.
