Research Data Management

This guide is intended to help researchers (faculty, staff and students) find resources and tools for Research Data Management (RDM): understanding the process of managing data, writing a data management pan (DMP), and meeting funding requirements.

UVic Dataverse

The Abacus Dataverse Network is the research data repository for UVic Library Data Services.

What is Dataverse?

Dataverse is "an open source application to publish, share, reference, extract and analyze research data. UBC Library can create a Dataverse setup for your research group where you can actively manage your data, share it securely with colleagues, provide version control, establish a permanent data citation, get a DOI for your dataset, and more." (UBC Abacus Dataverse)

Privacy concerns

Dataverse can be used as a private, online repository of research data, if researchers need secure deposit while conducting their research.  Access can be limited to authorized users and UVic administrators, if required. Additionally, UVic Dataverse is hosted locally, which is worth considering if your data needs to stay within Canada.

External Repositories

There are a large number of discipline-specific data archives/repositories.

  • re3data.org is a directory tool is an international registry of institutional and discipline-specific repositories.
  • Scholars Portal maintains a list by subject

If you are looking for discipline-specific repository, your subject librarian can help.
