This guide focuses on resources held by UVic Libraries on the Philosophy of Education with a particular focus on philosophical traditions of inquiry into educational practice, policy and research.

Your best source of information for an introduction to the philosophy of education is your instructor or supervisor. Ask them for their recommendations of useful introductory resources.

Introductory Video Clip--Prof. Maxine Greene

Students often ask me for introductory video clips. Here are some of my favourite on the philosophy of education.

Maxine Greene was a long-standing leading scholar in the philosophy of educaiton. She is a professor emeritus at Teachers College, Columbia University and past president of the Philosophy of Education Society, the American Educational Studies Association, and the American Educational Research Association. In this video clip, Prof. Greene discusses the role of imagination in education. UVic Libraries holds many titles by Prof. Greene including 'Existential Encounters for Teachers'.

Introductory Video Clip--Prof. Nel Noddings

Nel Noddings is Lee L. Jacks Professor of Education, Emerita, at Stanford University and past president of the National Academy of Education, the Philosophy of Education Society, and the John Dewey Society. UVic Libraries holds many titles by Prof. Noddings including 'Caring: A feminine approach to ethics & moral educations'.

In this video clip by Arizona State University, Prof. Noddings discusses her own educational experiences and reflections.
